Verified fees at Cluj private kindergartens

In short: 27 private nurseries and kindergartens in Cluj publish a fee we could verify at source. Kindergartens run from 800 to 2,900 RON a month; nurseries from 1,700 to the same 2,900 RON. The median entry fee is 2,000 RON at kindergarten and 2,100 RON at nursery. Every other private institution publishes no price at all.

There are no estimates in this article. Every figure below came either from an email the institution sent us or from its official website — and it says which.

What does a private kindergarten in Cluj actually cost?

A few things the averages hide:

• The entry fee is almost always the short programme. The gap between short and extended hours is typically 100–600 RON a month.
• Meals are sometimes included, sometimes not. ELSA includes them; Daniela and ImagiNation bill separately at 20–29 RON a day — roughly 400–600 RON more per month.
• Only one fee sits below 1,500 RON. Grădinița Samariteanul (800–1,500 RON) is the exception, not the rule.
• One institution prices in euro. Kinderland publishes packages of 250–450 EUR a month; we did not convert to RON, because an exchange rate would be a figure the institution never published.

“Confirmed by the institution” means someone there replied by email with the figure. “Own website” means we read it on their official page, and our institution page carries the exact link.

Why so many institutions are missing from the table

Because we could not find a fee we were able to verify. Specifically:

• 12 institutions explicitly say “contact us for pricing” — a fair position, and we treat it as such;
• the rest of the private institutions publish no fee and have not sent us one.

Until recently, many of their pages showed a band like “2,500–3,500 RON”. We deleted those figures. They came from the directory’s initial compilation, not from the institutions — 36 pages carried the identical band, which is statistically impossible. An invented number is worse than no number, because parents budget against it.

Every institution page now states where its data came from, including when the answer is “the institution has not confirmed this yet”.

What the monthly fee doesn’t cover

The monthly fee is not the total cost. Check separately for:

• the enrolment fee — between 150 and 650 RON at the institutions that publish one; we broke it down in our guide to enrolment fees;
• the re-enrolment fee, paid annually by families who stay;
• meals, if not included;
• materials, trips and optional activities;
• the holiday month — some institutions bill 12 months, others 10.

How to check a fee before you sign

1. Ask for the full fee table in writing, not just the headline figure.
2. Ask explicitly what it includes and what is billed separately.
3. Confirm which school year the table applies to. Two institutions in our table still show grids from earlier years — we’ve flagged that.
4. Ask when and by how much fees can change mid-year.
