All 17 state (municipal) nurseries in Cluj-Napoca are closed in August 2026 — a single, network-wide closure, not a rotation. In July a summer programme runs, but with eligibility conditions. If you work in August and your child attends a state nursery, it’s important to have a plan B ready early.

Below you’ll find which units are affected, why they close in summer, whether you can transfer your child temporarily, and what alternatives you have — all verified against official sources.

Which state nurseries are closed, and when

According to the schedule published by Creșa pentru Educație Timpurie Cluj-Napoca (“Schedule of the months in which the nurseries are closed in 2026”), the closure month for every municipal unit is August 2026. There is no rotating calendar for 2026: the network closes at the same time.

The 17 state nurseries affected are: Casa Spiridușilor, Castelul Fermecat, Căsuța Iepurașilor, Cenușăreasa (structures I and II), Clopoțica, Lacul Fermecat, Martinel (structure II), Micul Cercetaș, Patrocle, Prâslea cel Voinic, Prichindel, Scufița Roșie, Tom Degețel, Ursulețul (structures I and II) and Vrăjitorul din Oz.

The exact schedule and any updates are published on creseclujnapoca.ro — check it before you make summer plans, because the dates are confirmed each year.

The July summer programme: who can take part

In the weeks before the August closure, nurseries may run summer educational-recreational activities. Participation is not automatic: by an institutional decision (Decision no. 164/10.06.2026), the condition is that both parents (or the single parent) are employed and not on any form of leave during the requested period.

If you are on annual leave, parental leave or sick leave in that period, you may not qualify for the summer programme. Confirm the current conditions directly with the nursery or on the official site.

The summer closure is not an arbitrary decision — it falls under the national methodology for organising nurseries, Government Decision no. 566/2022 (Official Gazette no. 437 of 4 May 2022):

  • Art. 14 (2): ante-preschool early-education units may temporarily suspend their activity, with the approval of the school inspectorate and by informing parents, for a maximum of 30 days a year, for cleaning, repairs or pest control.
  • Art. 14 (3): during school holidays, activity may be reduced, depending on parents’ requests and the teaching staff’s leave schedule.

Current law requires informing parents in advance, but no longer sets a fixed number of days’ notice (the old 45-day requirement was in the 2012 methodology, which has been repealed). So follow the announcements on creseclujnapoca.ro to know exactly when this year’s schedule was posted.

Can you transfer your child temporarily to another nursery?

In theory yes — but a transfer is not guaranteed. Under GD 566/2022, Art. 18, a transfer is made at the parents’ request, with the approval of the receiving unit’s board and the advisory opinion of the unit the child leaves, within the limit of available places.

Locally, the regulation of the Nursery Budget Administration Centre (Art. 26) has the same rule: transfers may be made on request, with the CBAC director’s approval, within the limit of available places.

In other words, if all municipal nurseries are closed in August, a temporary transfer to another state nursery doesn’t solve the problem. The real alternatives are outside the municipal network.

What alternatives you have in August

  • Private nurseries that stay open. Many private nurseries set their own schedule and may operate in August, but this varies from one institution to another. Contact the private nursery you want directly to confirm its August availability. See the public or private nursery comparison.
  • A nanny, grandparents or other family members for the closure period.
  • Summer camps and programmes for older children.
  • If you’re also without a place for next year, see what to do on the nursery waiting list.

Frequently asked questions

Which state nurseries in Cluj are closed in August 2026? All 17 municipal nurseries (Creșa pentru Educație Timpurie Cluj-Napoca) are closed in August 2026, per the schedule published on creseclujnapoca.ro. There is no rotating programme — the network closes at once.

Do state nurseries close in rotation or all in the same month? For 2026, they all close in the same month — August. The closure is network-wide, not staggered.

Can I transfer my child to another state nursery over the summer? A transfer can be requested, but is only approved within the limit of available places at the receiving unit (GD 566/2022, Art. 18). Since all municipal nurseries are closed in August, transferring between them doesn’t help — the alternative is a private nursery.

How far in advance are parents told about the closure? Current law (GD 566/2022) requires informing parents in advance, but no longer sets a fixed number of days. Check the announcement’s publication date on creseclujnapoca.ro.

Do nurseries operate in July? A summer programme may run in July, but participation is conditional (both parents employed and not on leave in that period). Confirm with the nursery.

Conclusion

If your child attends a state nursery, plan August well in advance: the municipal network is closed, transferring between state nurseries isn’t a solution, and the July summer programme has conditions. The safest alternative remains a private nursery that operates in August — confirmed directly with the institution.
